There are dog people, then there are DOG PEOPLE!!
If you have found this blog post then you probably fit into the later category, just like our pet photography clients! For many of our photography clients, a pet photo shoot is a once in a lifetime adventure, but for some, it has become an annual holiday event, and trust us, we look forward to it every year, just as much as they do!
Before we get to some hilarious holiday photos with our clients, here are my top 4 reasons to consider including your pets in holiday photos:
They are cherished family members.
It’s almost unfair to leave your pets out of the family photo! Although we understand leaving your cat out, because he or she simply opted to stay home and not be bothered with the photoshoot (insert kitty eye roll here)! But dogs are a must, and they will love the experience as much as you!
Capture their personality.
Holiday photos are a perfect opportunity to capture your pet’s personality. Some of our absolute favorite photographs, are those of dogs reacting to the silly things their humans do in photos. Pets have priceless expressions, and sometimes we don’t even catch those expressions in the moment, until we slow down and see what turns up on-camera. Now, imagine sharing those hysterical moments with all your friends and family!
Festive Holiday Fun
The family holiday card is like your hall-pass to wear tacky clothes and be as silly as you want…or not, you can certainly keep it classy. No matter your style or personal preference, the holidays are just a fun time to dress up or dress down, create a fun story, and reflect on all the memories created throughout the year. Your pets are likely a big part of your 2024 story, and they should be considered when planning your holiday portraits. Besides, how many times throughout the year will your pooch have the opportunity to wear that light-up doggy sweater?

Including your pets in your holiday family photos is going to give you ALL the positive feels for many years to come (and long after, they have departed). Reflecting on your photos will remind you of different milestones throughout your pet’s life, and your own.

This Riverside family of four LOVES crafting the perfect holiday message and card to send out to their friends and family. BUT, they don’t opt for traditional, they always have a story to tell…a story we are proud to help bring to life with a creative in-studio collaboration.
Around this time every year, I hear from Beth, who usually says, “Ok, this is what I’m thinking, are you up for it?” Our answer is always a resounding YES! My husband Logan and I have over 15 years of professional studio lighting experience, so when a client brings us a new challenge, we are equally excited to flex our creative muscles. Our studio space is perfect for creative family and pet photo shoots, because it is free from outside distractions, and we can dress the space with any needed props. Best of all…weather is never an issue when you take your photos in-studio!
Each year Beth and Steve reflect on what’s happening in their family life. We started photographing them in 2020, hence the COVID era…amidst this very tough year, the best personal therapy for two of them was to express the solitude of that time through art, and a touch of levity, since socializing during this time meant dates at home with their dogs.
Moving on to post-COVID spending sprees on their beloved dogs and the spoiled habits their pups picked up after nearly a year spent at home with both parents (2021).
We helped them mark a special wedding anniversary in 2022 with added commentary on media and their devices taking over their free time.
And in 2023 we celebrated the healthy milestones they achieved during the year, with a special nod to the great 1980s!
